An assembly of creatives spreading laughter one panel at a time...
As an avid fan of comic books, and short, quirky humour, I was extraordinarily lucky to have met a group of students with exceptional potential in art and ones with the enthusiasm in web-design. At first it was a big question as to whether a club such as this was even worthy of being set up. I was given wary looks and questioning tones by my supervisors as to how determined I am to starting something that may not even work out. ASAD, a school that does not have a single club and whose activities are almost always a one-time commitment, is going to have such an ambitious a club as a Comic Committee? It seemed impossible to many people, and indeed we did face many challenges.
Meetings were hard to arrange, what with the strictness of the separation between genders and the lack of a teacher willing to supervise us as to deter the separation rule. Therefore, I often had to deliver messages around instead, going around to each member of the club during break in order to remind them of deadlines or inform them about any recent assignments or changes. Thank goodness for technology that often, I would just have to send the members emails about their weekly assignment or have e-conferences in group chats. If it were not for those, we wouldn't have been able to achieve as much as we did. In the end, though not as grandiose as my idealistic brain imagined the club to be; some people may say that my head was in the clouds after all and the project was too unrealistic to become anything-- I am still confident that I have proven them wrong. It is true that the lack of support meant that we did not have much of an audience. It is true that in the countless assignments that I had planned with my team, we were only able to release a few issues, but I still believe that The Comic Committee had been a success. We have a website, a wonderful one at that, though a bit lacking in content. We did have a few issues and in them, several comics released. And in the end, we had fun and progressed farther than any unsupported club activity in ASAD ever did. And I am deeply proud of my members who even with their busy schedules, dared to believe. |
